DCU Proxy server
The DCU proxies provide the following services:
- Squid internet cache (http/ftp/SSL) proxy.
To configure your browser for proxy use:
Mozilla Firefox
Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Network Settings,
click the automatic proxy configuration box and fill the following URL into
the configuration location box:
http://proxy.dcu.ie/proxy.pac
Internet Explorer:
Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections
click the "use automatic configuration script" and fill in the following URL:
http://proxy.dcu.ie/proxy.pac
- FTP Proxy
To use the DCU ftp proxy - ftp to proxy.dcu.ie.
Log in as username@remote.ftp.server et voila....
To FTP through a web browser
Anonymous ftp
e.g. ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/blast/db/
This will work immediatley allowing you to download files/folders
authenticated ftp
Put username in url like this ...
e.g. ftp://username@student.dcu.ie
and provide password when prompted
This works for ftp sites external to DCU also ...
- Telnet proxy.
To use the DCU telnet proxy - telnet to proxy.dcu.ie.
Type "connect remote.telnet.site" and voila...
- Socks 4 and 5 proxy (Dante)
Port 1080 - standard SOCKS 4/5 proxy, under Windows you may need Sockscap (unsupported by CSD) - supports the following services:
- SSH/SCP - use runsocks or the Dante socks client (config file here: /etc/socks.conf) on Linux or
Sockscap on windows
(OR use a client which supports SOCKS - SSH client - SCP client)
- POP3
- IMAP4
- CVS - need runsocks
- Bilestein/Crossfire (Chemistry database)
- z39.50
- MSN Messanger
- AOL Instant Messanger
- Jabber
- IRC (Internet Relay Chat)
- Telnet
- Any other service that deserves campus wide access, make your case to sysops@dcu.ie with port numbers of course!
- RealAudio (PNA) proxy.
Port 1090 - will be phased out in favour of an RTSP proxy when we get one!
Note: All these services are subject to access control - if you can't use them and feel you have a valid reason to, please mail sysops@dcu.ie explaining the problem and reason.
